MEI
English Teacher Training Courses in Ireland

MEI Schools provide teacher training for their own staff as well as other MEI schools.  Until December 2004 the TEFL qualification in MEI schools was known as the RELSA Certificate.  As of January 2005 the Department of Education introduced a recognition scheme for all TEFL courses.  This means that now all TEFL courses in MEI schools are fully accredited by the Department of Education.  The certifcation is now awarded by Advisory Council for English Language Schools (ACELS).  From January 2010 CELT (Certificate in English Language Training) was established.  All English Language Schools in Ireland by ACELS (Accreditation and Coordination of English Language Services) www.acels.ie will provide their own CELT course.  Prior to this there was the RELSA certificate.  This certificate was approved by our association previously known as MEI-RELSA (Marketing English in Ireland Recognised English Language Schools).  The RELSA certificate is recognised worldwide.

English Teaching Employment Opportunities

With 53 member schools around Ireland, working in a MEI school is a guarantee of job satisfaction. You can expect a sufficient number of teaching hours, good hourly teaching rates and professional working conditions and benefits. In addition, many schools reward loyalty and good service by offering permanent positions with contracts and promotions to senior teaching positions. As an association it is common for teachers to move from one member school to another, as promotions become available. Teachers in MEI schools are at an advantage. Through the association, they can develop a career path in TEFL, leading to positions in senior academic management, school management and even international EFL marketing.
