English Teacher Training Courses in Ireland
12 MEI schools provide teacher training courses for their own staff as well as other MEI schools. Until December 2004 the TEFL qualification in MEI schools was known as the RELSA Certificate. As of January 2005 the Department of Education introduced a recognition scheme for all TEFL courses. This means that now all TEFL courses in MEI schools are fully accredited by the Department of Education. You can expect a sufficient number of teaching hours, good hourly teaching rates and professional working conditions and benefits. In addition, many schools reward loyalty and good service by offering permanent positions with contracts and promotions to senior teaching positions. As an association it is common for teachers to move from one member school to another, as promotions become available. Teachers in MEI schools are at an advantage.
