Sunny South East

Counties Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, and Carlow make up the area which is known as Ireland's "Sunny Southeast".

Wexford belongs to the part of Ireland referred to as the ‘Sunny South East.’ With their pleasant weather and fine sandy beaches. The Blackstairs Mountains are ideal for climbing and walking. Angling and canoeing are popular activities on the River Slaney. A cheerful blend of old and new, the ancient town of Wexford is lively and picturesque with narrow cobbled treets and quaint pubs. The history of Wexford goes back to pre-Christian times, as a trip to the Irish National Heritage Park in nearby Ferrycarrig will illustrate.

County Waterford has some of the most beautiful scenery in Ireland. Much of the north and centre of the county is mountainous. The Waterford coastline is a series of rugged cliffs and sand-fringed bays, where you'll find many attractive seaside resorts. Most famous as the home of Waterford Crystal, Waterford is a small friendly city filled with things to see and do.

Kilkenny is a medieval city of 24,000 people acclaimed internationally as a centre for craft and design. Each year Kilkenny hosts a number of international festivals and the city is a very popular tourist destination. This medieval city is characterised by many beautifully restored buildings and winding slipways - it is small and compact enough to explore on foot, yet full of fascinating historical buildings and contemporary shops, design galleries and restaurants.

County Carlow one of Ireland’s smallest counties, is bordered by the scenic Blackstairs Mountains to the east. The county’s most prominent feature is the 5000-year-old granite formation known as Browne’s Hill Dolmen. It's believed to have the largest capstone in Europe, weighing a colossal 100 tonnes. Carlow offers an extensive and impressive range of shops, boutiques and restaurants.
